Trehilyn Welsh Corgis - Pembroke & Cardigan

Our Dogs - Pembrokes

While some of our Pembrokes may be viewed via the Dog Profiles links page,  a little more about past and present dogs here.

As we miss more shows than are attended and are not focused solely on making up champions, many deserving dogs become retired before they are champion titled.  While a show ring title is "nice", it does not necessarily indicate a good example of the breed and many very good dogs get to stay home and play!

It has taken us many generations to build the type of Pembroke Welsh Corgi we feel fits the breed standard and all that means for a little Welsh working dog, which needs to be intelligent, biddable, sound in all aspects of mind and body and as a bonus, rather good looking!

While the subject of line-breeding in pedigree dogs has been under recent debate - careful, selective and knowledgeable linebreeding and outcrossing (within the breed) is the best method of preserving  a particular breed over generations.  It is the sole reason we have different breeds of cattle, sheep, horses or poultry which have been developed and then carefully preserved for their individual breed attributes.

In the hands of fools it is a dangerous tool yet used carefully and in the hands of a capable breeder, it is the best way possible to maintain both the type and health of our breeds.

A good motto courtesy of the late Miss Patsy Hewan of the former, famous Stormerbanks Kennels (UK);
"Close, but not too close"

Just out of interest, compare these two puppies...

(Left) Siancof Xtra Ultra 2006 (Right) Stormerbanks Robson 1982

Both puppies have been photographed at approximately the same age.
White markings and an age gap 24 years aside, the similarity is startling.
The dog on the right is actually the great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather of the puppy on the left.  Yes SIX greats!

By preserving our breeds with careful linebreeding within breeds and maintaining health and breed type, we can still chose to enjoy exactly the breed of dog that personally fits our taste and lifestyle for decade after decade and know exactly what we are getting.

~ Introducing a few of our early retirees ~

First our Home-Page Covergirl..

*SIANCOF ITS MY PARTY* - "Nikki"

(CH Fergwyn The Music Man ex CH Siancof Autumn Bells)

Born 6 July 2000

Nikki first entered the ring in Junior Class at just over 12 months old.  She was shown a handful of times, winning Best of Breed awards plus Group 1 & 2 placings at city-based championship shows under Canadian and Australian judges.

Nikki was Reserve CC and Junior in Show at the Welsh Corgi Club of WA Specialty Championship Show in 2001.

Critique: Mrs Anne Indergaard, Norway.

"Quality bitch of excellent size and proportions. Sweet, feminine head.  Excellent forequarters.  Well bodied for her age.  Very well angulated hindquarters with nice short hocks. Moves with reach and drive. Excellent coat, very well presented."

Shortly after her one litter a fabulous home came up for Nikki and she is speyed and now lives a life of luxury as a retired ladies companion.

Nikki breeds on through her great, great grandaughter Siancof Yeah For Dessert.  Currently the proud mother of our October 2009 litter!

*SIANCOF HONEY HARVEST* - "Megan"

(Ivellen Icon ex CH Siancof Autumn Bells)

Born 2 June 1999

(Photo - 3 years)

Meggy had a very  short and sweet show career, two outings, winning Baby and Minor of Breed and Group both times.

She then retired to become chief ball and bird chaser at home and to make room in the showring for her glamorous litter sister,

CH Siancof Heartsong.

Meggy breeds on through her one litter and full tailed grand-daughter CH Siancof Shaken NotStirred plus spunky great-grandson CH *Siancof We Have Ignition*   (See breed profiles)  sired by the lovely outcross dog and Australian National Specialty R/Up BIS winner, Aust Grand CH Kevlain Colour My World.

A dog from the more recent past has had quite a profound influence on our Pembrokes and it was thanks to the kindness of Gloria Woodward (Aberlee Kennels,  Qld) that this quality dog came to stay with us and had the opportunity to sire several successful litters in Western Australia.

His name was..

*CH BAYVIEW WAVEBREAKER* - "Zac"

*AUST GRAND CH KEVLAIN COLOUR MY WORLD* - "Rex"

(Ch Mandene Crest Colours ex Ch Samiha Remember Me)

With his absolutely outstanding movement, stunning presence and happy, workmanlike attitude Rex first caught my eye at the Melbourne Royal Show in 2003.  However it was not until two years later that I had the opportunity to breed a selected bitch to him.    Thank you to Sarah Chick of Samiha Pembrokes & Cardigans for allowing us to use this great little dog with a very useful extended pedigree hiding some great dogs I remember from the past.

Rex is the sire of CH Siancof WeHave Ignition - "Brock"
