The Past While Trehilyn is home to (at last count) 27 Australian Champions and one multiple Best in Show winning Australian Grand Champion plus multiple Best Exhibit in Group and Class in Group and Show winners, we normally do not attend shows on a regular basis and our predominant interest does not lie in merely making up champions. Our main aim from limited and carefully planned litters is to create and sometimes exhibit sound, typical, true to breed type Welsh Corgi Pembrokes and Welsh Corgi Cardigans of excellent temperament with the bonus of our individual concept of that elusive factor, "quality".
Now to remember a few of our really special, past corgis. Those which consistenly achieved a starring role for their respective breeds. The first to feature was.. *CH SIANCOF FLEURIE* (Ch Colwyn Kiwi Majic ex Siancof Starglow) 23 January 1988 - 28th June 2002
Other show highlights include (1992) Runner Up BISS under Mrs Lesley Chalmers (Merthyr, NZ) - CC 1989 Western Classic (Mrs Liz Cartledge Ryslip, UK) - CC 1990 Western Classic (Mr L Texeira, Portugal) - CC 1991 Western Classic (Mrs W Dines, NZ). A Best in Group; multi class in group and show winner and sired by West Australian bred Ch Colwyn Kiwi Majic ;(himself a BISS and Western Classic all-breeds BIS winner) she lives on through her descendents each with her extremely sweet, fun loving and kind temperament making them a joy to live with. When bred to the Ch Stormerbanks Robson (Imp UK) son Darenvale Danby, Fleurie produced quite an interesting dog puppy...
*AUSTRALIAN GRAND CHAMPION SIANCOF ROYAL DOMINO* - "Beau" (Darenvale Danby ex CH Siancof Fleurie) 11 July 1990 - 10 May 2002
Beau remains the top winning Welsh Corgi of all time in Western Australia and in his short career, one of the State's top showdogs.
A true Grand Champion, he holds 27 BIG (Group 1) & 11 BIS and 5 R/UP BIS awards at Perth metropolitan
Over a short but thrilling show career, highlights include;
**West Australian All Breeds Puppy of the Year 1991**
Reserve in Group/Junior in Group - Perth Royal Show 1991 **Best Exhibit in Show - Perth Royal Show 1992**
Runner Up Pedigree/Pal Top Dog All Breeds Western Australia- 1992 **Pedigree/Pal Top Dog All Breeds Western Australia - 1994**
Runner up Best of Winners - 1994 WAKC Contest of Winners **Best of Winners - WAKC Contest of Winners 1995** Plus.. First West Australian representative - inaugural Oz Dog Australasian Showdog of the Year - Canberra
"Bold in outlook, workmanlike; outgoing and friendly; substance and stamina in a small space"
Sound of body and mind and a phenomenal showdog, in the ring Beau had that elusive "look at me" quality coupled with sound conformation and outstanding movement.
In the showring Beau rarely missed out on the BOB award and received that honour under many top-ranking international judges including Mr Terry Thorn (UK) and Mr Luis Texeira (Portugal).
Apart from his all-breeds achievements, Beau holds CC/BOB awards won under both international and Australian breed specialist judges.
A Once In A Lifetime Dog and a plucky little Welshman of warm character, great humour and heart. Beau has left us with so many wonderful memories.
Last Pembroke to feature from the past..
*CH SIANCOF SUCH A GLOW* - "Peppi" (Dinas Barnaby Rudge ex Siancof Frosty Night) 25 November 1988 - May 1999 (Photo 9 months) Peppi was a striking orange and white male with true flowing movement and in much the same mould as his great grandsire, CH Penmoel Such Fun of Rivona (UK)
A very glamourous and classy Welsh gentleman to whom dirt would not dare stick.. We always felt that a lace 'kerchief in his top pocket would not have looked out of place..
Peppi was the sire of 5 Champions from 4 matings..
CH Siancof Hot To Trot - Class in Group winner
No ordinary dancer, Peppi liked to twirl!
Peppi's career highlights include; R/up Best of Breed 1989 Perth Royal Show
...but enough about Pembrokes say the Cardigans! With much thanks to Judith Scott-Williams for our line-bred foundation bitch with stunning Welsh Corgi Cardigan character and superb and true breed type, R/up Welsh Corgi Club of WA winner (Mr Kim Nielsen, Denmark - Cardigan breed specialist) & multiple Perth Royal and Western Classic BOB winner,
*CH WYTHAM ROSAMUND (AI)* - "Poppin" (Am.CH Kennebec Ice Anchor (USA) ex CH Wytham Honey Rose (AI) 24 September 1996 - 30 June 2010
Poppin is behind all our Cardigans in direct female tail line.
Introducing one of her most successful grand-daughters bred under our former "CARDIGEMS" prefix;
*CH CARDIGEMS TOFFEE TRI* - "Halle" (CH Copperleaf Gold N Fire (Imp NZ) ex CH Cardigems Opal Esque) 6 December 2002 -
Halle made her puppy debut by winning Minor in Show at the WCC of Western Australia Specialty Championship Show (Cardigans & Pembrokes) and quickly followed this with 3 successive Minor in Group and Show awards. Then at the age of just 9 months a flight across Australia to attend the 2003 Melbourne Royal Show for bitch CC and BOB from the Puppy Class. Unable to stay for General Specials, Halle flew home to attend the Perth Royal Show 2003 again winning CC/BOB and then Puppy in Group and ultimately, progressing one step further than her dam in a previous year, going on to PERTH ROYAL PUPPY IN SHOW.
At the CAWA Western Classic 2004 Halle was awarded CC and Junior in Group the first day and ResCC to younger half-sister Claire (Ch Cardigems Nicely Iced) the second. Specialty highlights included:
Australian Welsh Corgi National Specialty - Adelaide 2004
Class winner and Reserve CC/(again to her younger half-sister Claire) and Australian Bred of Breed and then..
AUSTRALIAN BRED IN SHOW (Cardigans and Pembrokes) at the 2004 National Specialty under Mrs Anne Bowes (USA) (Photo by Batae - Adelaide)
Taking time out for a litter and barely back in coat, Halle again attended the National Specialty in Melbourne 2006, winning the Open Bitch class and a Res CC under Mr Larry Adams (Gaylord USA). Back in the all-breeds ring under international judges..
2005 – CC/BOB both days of the Western Classic
2006 – CC/Runner Up BOB Day 1 Western Classic
2006 - CC/BOB Day 2 of the Western Classic and then..
**BEST EXHIBIT IN GROUP** thus making Halle the FIRST Cardigan Welsh Corgi to win this coveted award at the Western Classic shows. ![]() In 2008 Halle made her last trip to the Perth Royal Show and retires with a pleasing record of wins in good competition. 2003 - CC/BOB Melbourne Royal Show 2003 - CC/BOB Perth Royal Show & Puppy in Group; Puppy in Show. 2004 – ResCC/Runner Up BOB Perth Royal Show
2005 - CC/BOB Perth Royal Show 2006 - 2007 (Not entered)
2008 - CC/BOB Perth Royal Mr Luis Fernando Ribas Silva (Brazil)
"I haz finished my work, that's all folks"
Halle's son *CH Cardigems Raven Av Norge* and daughter, *CH Cardigems Cherry Cola* (both by CH Cardigems Direct Hit) were the final champions made up under our former "Cardigems" prefix.
Finally, the past would be incomplete without mention of.. *CH CARDIGEMS NICELY ICED* - "Claire" (CH Copperleaf Gold N Fire (Imp NZ) ex CH Wytham Rosamund AI) 11 April 2003 -
"Claire" 18 months.
Claire brims with quality breed type and has a gentle, affectionate, fun-loving and exuberant personality, the latter of which she sadly never shared inside the showring. Unshown until about a year old, Claire ventured out to win Challenge bitch at the Western Classic Show in 2004. Immediately afterwards, she traveled by road from Perth to Adelaide to attend the 2004 Australian Welsh Corgi National Specialty, where she won her class and was then awarded Bitch Challenge and Runner up BOB in a record entry of Cardigan Welsh Corigis. Unfortunately after these two outings, Claire decided a show career was not for her. After soldiering on doing something she did not really enjoy, Claire was rewarded with a happy retirement immediately upon gaining her championship title! From her single litter (to CH Bethwyn Major League) Claire is the dam of CH Cardigems Direct Hit & CH Cardigems Caught Stealin'
"Claire' - CH Cardigems Nicely Iced "Kindly, alert but watchful expression"
So much for the past and from 2009 we go forward to help preserve the unique breed type and characteristics of both breeds of Welsh Corgi but under a single prefix..
